I made these photographs in 2003/2004 and had completely forgotten about them. This was at a time when I had just started learning how to make photographs. It would give me the excuse to disappear away from home and distract myself from my mother’s illness. In July 2021 my mother’s house got flooded during the monsoon and over a thousand of these slides were submerged under water among other things. It felt kind of strange that these images got destroyed in the very place that they had been made to escape from.
